Ode to my Wellies

Every other morning I wake,
to find the heavens have a different take,
on what it is to show the sun,
and herald that the day's begun.

This morning, woe is me,
I look outside and what I see?
Rain is pouring down so fast,
I am sure my roof won't last.

I haul myself out of bed,
pour some coffee, eat some bread.
Wondering how I will cope,
sliding down this rainy slope.

So out come the wellies and my coat,
so light and cheerful I nearly float.
Black and white and oh so cool,
it feels like first day at school.

Suddenly the puddles on the street,
turn into playgrounds for my feet.
I'll jump and splash all the way,
still my socks will stay dry all the day.

Oh my wellies, I love you,
in the rain you take me through.
To my work and keep me clean,
prettier wellies you have never seen!
